Personalised pop-ups allow you to deliver more relevant, targeted messages to the right users at the right time. Using Personas, you can customise pop-up banners to reflect a visitor’s location or browsing behaviour.
For example:
- Show visitors from specific countries that your admissions team is touring in their region.
- Display a downloadable Financial Aid Guide to users browsing your Scholarships page.
This article walks you through how to create and personalise pop-ups using personas.
1. Create your Pop-Up Template
Start by going to the page you'd like to add your personalised pop-up to show on. For most pop-ups, your homepage will make the most sense. You can also create your pop-up on a test page while you're building it before adding it to your final page or pages.
- Go to any area on the page where you see a yellow + circle that allows you to add a feature. Click the button.
- Give your Feature a name such as Pop-up Country
- Under Feature Type, select a Text and then Save.
- Click the pencil on your new text feature to open it up. Edit your pop-up by adding your content, text, links, photos, etc.
- In Feature Settings, add site-opened-popup to the Custom CSS Class. This class ensures your feature displays as a pop-up on the site.
- Click Save and return to your page to preview your pop-up.
2. Hide Your Template Version
Once you're happy with the design and layout, this pop-up will serve as your template for personalisation only, so you'll want to hide it.
- Click the pencil icon to return to the pop-up settings.
- Under the Settings, scroll to Visibility and check both:
- Do you want to hide this feature on desktop?
- Do you want to hide this feature on mobile?
- This now acts as your non-personalised template.
3. Add Personalisation
Now you can begin to personalise your pop-up for different scenarios. For this example, we’ll personalise with a country-based persona.
- Find your Feature in the Feature Manager.
- In Edit Mode, click + Personalisation.
- Enter a Version Name to identify this personalised pop-up.
- (Optional) Add a Version Tag, such as Location, to help with organisation.
- Under Personas, select your country-based persona. Visit our Knowledge Base to learn how to create a country-based persona.
- Click Add to create the personalised version.

- If you've followed the steps above, your new personalised pop-up will be hidden from everyone except for those who match your personalised criteria.
- You can repeat this process for as many personas as required. To do so, go back to your original feature via the Feature Manager.
